I was able to check out a demo deck at the Austin Film Festival during the live Scriptnotes session. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first. Screenwriting solutions in the form of a deck of cards? Sounds gimmicky. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Writer Emergency Pack is really just a clever, compact way for John August to share several of the lessons he has learned over the years as a professional screenwriter to overcome many of the common problems screenwriters face. I don't imagine I'll pick a card at random and magically fix my screenplay. Instead, I'll go through the deck all at once for an overview, then come back to the deck when I realize I find myself in a particular situation that August has identified in Writer Emergency Pack.
