Happy Halloween, NFSers! Whether you are gearing up to pass out bite-size candies or pass out from eating too many bite-size candies, one thing we're all going to be doing on the scariest night of the year is sitting down to watch our favorite horror films. And interestingly enough, the film you choose may actually have a lot to do with which state you live in. This is according to a study conducted by Influenster, which surveyed 15,237 individuals across the U.S. to find out which film was most popular in each state. Check out the infographic below, and then continue on to find out which horror flick is the reigning champion of the United States!

Most of the results are pretty standard—you've got states like New Jersey that chose The Exorcist, Texas that appropriately chose The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and my home state of Oregon that chose A Nightmare on Elm Street (I'm actually watching a Freddy marathon later on—weird).

However, the absolute most surprising piece of data collected by Influenster's poll is which movie was chosen by the most states—and I promise you'd never guess it in a million years. Just—try. Take a guess. I'll wait.

You ready? Okay, the answer is:

Hocus Pocus

That's right—Hocus Freakin' Pocus! I love that movie, I watched it last night with my wife and kid, but really? It's not even a horror film! But, I suppose we can all give a pass to one of our most beloved cult classics about Halloween.
