As the vaccine is rolled out across the world, Los Angeles prepares to reopen movie theaters. According to a report from California Governor Gavin Newsom, movie theaters will be allowed to reopen at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is less.

This goes into effect on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

So why are we reopening now? L.A. has met the 10 cases per 100,000 metrics for a few weeks, and so will be able to reopen immediately as the vaccination threshold is met.

This does not make being in the movies safe. That only comes with a vaccine and a few weeks of built immunity. Right now there are no details, but you can expect mandatory mask-wearing inside and probably no sales of concessions like we have seen happen in New York.

This comes on the heels of some immense streaming successes. I'm not sure about the incentive to rush back, but I assume numbers will rise alongside the number of people vaccinated.

Time will tell.
