Birds Of Prey Teaser: DC Enters A New Phase
Harley Quinn is back. And she brought friends.
The Birds of Prey aren't set to swoop in for a landing until 2020, but that hasn't stopped Warner Brothers from dropping the first teaser for the film. It's another comic book movie set to take on the box office. This time, Harley Quinn leaves the Suicide Squad to headline her own team.
Based on the popular DC comic, Birds of Prey, this will be a modern take on the hero team up movie.
While the comic originally got the TV treatment in the early 2000s, it's exciting to see it back on the big screen.
The recent surge of Aquaman, both at the box office and with critics, means that DC has hopefully righted the ship. This, plus Wonder Woman: 1984, are part of a new slate that seems to be embracing a "what the fans want" mission. Coupled with Todd Phillips's Joker movie and you might even say DC has moved into its second phase of hero releases.
No matter what, it's important to note that all-female ensembles are still going strong.
The official title of the movie is Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
While that sounds like a Fiona Apple album, the teaser does give fans first looks at all the characters in makeup. Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain all make appearances.
Cathy Yan is set to direct this kick-ass ensemble.
Here's hoping it rises from the ashes and leaves Suicide Squad in the dust.
The official IMDB synopsis is:
"After splitting up with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins three female superheroes - Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya - to save the life of a little girl from an evil crime lord."
