No Film School reached out to Blackmagic Design to found out if the price drop is a permanent discount. And yes, it is. This allows you some time to consider the decision. When asked why BMD is offering a price reduction, though it's welcomed, a spokesperson for the company said there is no other specific reason other than they found a way to make the camera at a lower cost.

So, if you were hoping that there might be a new camera in the wings, you might have to wait a while.

Blackmagic's Pocket Cinema Cameras have been a big hit with filmmakers because it combines robust features in a compact size. The BMPCC 6K features a 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor that can record native 4K or 6K Blackmagic RAW, Apple ProRes, and offers up to 13 stops of dynamic range. Besides its recording capabilities, it's compatible with the ATEM Mini switchers, including the recently announced ATEM Mini Pro

Both the 6K and 4K models have built-in CFast and SD UHS-II cards, and a USB-C expansion port for recording direct to an external media disk. For audio, a mini XLR input provides 48v of phantom power, and the camera has 4 built-in microphones that captures decent quality sound. Additionally, there's a 3.5mm audio input as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.
