When Canon launched its mirrorless full-frame R line of cameras back in 2018, it never looked back.

The popularity of the mirrorless line skyrocketed and has since become the prime focus of its camera business.  But what has been missing is a more user-friendly APS-C mirrorless model to echo the popular Rebel line. But that may be all about to change in 2022.

No real word on specs just yet, but the site is loosely referring to the new APS-C mirrorless rig as either an R7 or M series. Canon Rumors has also mentioned a backside-illuminated image sensor in previous reporting.

Moreover, we could extrapolate that this new DIGIC camera sensor will be similar to the M50 Mark II in design, but with improved, although heavily cropped, 4K video quality and Dual Pixel Autofocus. Canon’s APS-C Rebels also sport a pull-out, pivoting LCD screen, which could also make an appearance.

The new APS-C will likely rely on Canon’s new RF lens mount, but since APS-C camera lens mounts haven’t been interchangeable with their full-frame cousins, it wouldn’t be surprising if this new camera line also introduced RF-S or RF-M lenses to go along with it, much like the consumer-centric M50 Mark II does.

Outside of what is pure speculation, the camera is believed to definitely launch in the latter half of next year. Meaning prototypes should be testing now in the wild.

We'll keep our eyes peeled!
