IBC is returning as an in-person trade show, which is great news for those who enjoy attending the Amsterdam event that showcases the latest technology from exhibitors along with several educational conferences to hone your filmmaking skills. IBC 2021 is set for Dec. 3-6, 2021.

“Following a period of industry consultation, the IBC Partnership Board has agreed that December is the best date in terms of safety and industry readiness to engage,” said IBC chief executive Michael Crimp. “Our conclusion is based on the results of the recent IBC exhibitor and visitor surveys and macro evidence of Europe opening up for business."

Show organizers point out that "health and safety" were key factors behind the decision to return. IBC surveyed visitors and exhibitors, and two-thirds of respondents said tighter protocols to protect the health of visitors would encourage them to attend. It's not clear if IBC will require a vaccination passport for entry, but they did point out that survey respondents preferred that option the most.

Crimp adds, "Clearly, IBC will be safest when attendees are vaccinated, and shifting to December allows us to implement the most appropriate safety protocols. In turn, this will enable us to maximize the audience. We also had to consider the ability of the supply chain to deliver a high-quality event. We believe that key services such as airports and airlines, and hotels will have established smooth operations and be able to provide a more streamlined service by December."

Several regular exhibitors have already signed up to showcase products including Adobe, Atomos, and Blackmagic Design, but others like ARRI, Canon, and Sony have yet to commit. Maybe as the event gets closer more companies will return to exhibit.
