You can save over $750 on the Astra 6X Bi-Color LED, including either a free V-mount or Gold-mount, now for a limited time.

If you've been thinking about adding LitePanels to your lighting kit, now is the time to buy. Adorama is running a fire sale on the Astra 6X Bi-Color LED for a limited time. Both kits, which include either V-mount or Gold-mount brackets at no additional charge, now cost $899 with free shipping. These durable lights are still the standard for highly mobile lighting kits and you'll see them on location worldwide.

The Astra 6X is a traditional Litepanel 1x1 and is designed with select premium quality, high CRI, surface mount LEDs and paired with custom optics. The Astra 6X has an impressive output that rates among the highest of similarly sized LED panels. It is 50% brighter than the first generation Astra and 6 times brighter than the original 1x1. The result is a longer throw and illumination that covers a wider area, allowing the panel to better compete with strong exterior light sources or illuminate a larger area effectively with just a single fixture.

Beware, there have been a lot of issues with this light: Flickering, power button failures, led strips going out, and complete light failure.
I’ve personally used Astras in the past with great success, and no issues.
On one occasion I was in Greece shooting an interview and a gust of wind caught the light. The light fell from 6 feet, face first onto a sharp boulder. I thought for sure it was dead. After picking it up I was surprised that it still worked, with no damage.
So I’m really not sure what the deal is with these.

Thanks for the input. I haven’t owned this model, but have used them without issue. It’s a little surprising, Vitec is a good company.

I own six Astra's(4x 4x's & 2x 6x's) and yes, there is a well known issue with the power boards in them. They can't handle the surge when powering the lights up and eventually fail. I've had four repaired(power board replaced), so far. Three under warranty and I have a fifth that is about to go back for the same reason. Five out of six... The 6x's didn't even make it eight months before they started to act-up.

It's pretty hard to find a gaffer or anyone that owns any of them that hasn't had this problem with them.

They produce great quality light and are pretty ubiquitous in the industry, but there is a huge issue that Vitec needs to admit to and fix. Someone even mentioned that there was talk over on another well-know board about some wanting start a class action suit. Yeah, it's that bad.

But if you have any, a gaffer passed along this tip that an LP/Vitec tech told him:
Turn the dimmer all the way to zero, turn the light on, wait for the power light to stop flashing and turn solid green(may take several seconds), then slowly turn the dimmer up to the required brightness level. And before turning them off, dim them to zero, again.

They are great lights when they actually work. I’ve owned six 4x’s, and everyone one of them has crapped out at some point in the last year - same issues you mentioned above. I agree about turning them on only when the dimmer is all the way down, that seems to be the trick. All that being said though, this is a great deal on there lights.

With the discount they are now only 3-4 times as expensive as comparable lights.
