New Canon 4K Camcorder (Plus More Cameras) on the Horizon
Leaked reports of new Canon cameras are starting to trickle out…
With NAB 2021 less than three months away, leaks and rumors are beginning to appear for big names across the board. (Like a new Canon EOS R3, anyone?)
And according to new reports, Canon is again the latest manufacturer to let slip a new camera offering—plus perhaps several more—on the horizon.
It’s not the biggest news to start off with, but it looks like Canon has a new professional 4K camcorder set to drop in August which should at least turn a few heads in the film and video community.
Let’s take a look at this new Canon 4K camcorder and what we might expect from the camera and brand both moving forward.
Professional 4K Canon Camcorder
There’s not too much here in terms of concrete specs or details just yet, but there’s plenty that we can assume from this leaked announcement from Canon Rumors.
A new “professional 4K Canon camcorder” is set to drop later this summer, and it should be at least close to comparable in terms of price and function to the Canon XF705 4K.
This XF705 of course has proven to be a solid Canon workhorse camcorder for run-and-gun video production needs like commercial and corporate documentary-style shoots with its 1.0-inch CMOS sensor, 4K UHD 4:2:2 10-bit video recording, and 15x optical zoom built-in lens.
However, according to the same reports, this new camcorder might end up being a bit below those specs and possibly more akin to the Canon EOS C70, from which this new camcorder will share at least similar codec options.

More Canon Cameras Soon?
Undoubtedly, this is just one of the first leaks to come out of Canon, as we’re on the cusp of what promises to be another exciting and eventful NAB season.
NAB 2020, as we all know, was forced to cancel due to COVID-19, and this year’s follow-up has been pushed back from its usual April date to October.
So to say that there’s a pent-up demand for flashy camera releases and news would be an understatement.
Stay tuned as coverage ramps up heading into the next few months, folks!
