Tarantino is Writing Reviews of Some of His Favorite Films (and They're Glorious)

Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Tarantino always has strong opinions. And he's releasing them online.

Quentin Tarantino loves movies. If you watch any of his work you get that. The guy is a wealth of knowledge on cinema and has recently made his opinions public on lots of his favorite films.

Tarantino is using the New Beverly Cinema’s website to talk about westerns, kung-fu movies, and just the things he's presumably watching to get through quarantine.

Or...should we call it...Quarantino...

I'm so sorry.

In the month of March, he's reviewed Gunsmoke, Cade's County, Wang Yu: Superstar, Prophecy, and Fatal Needles vs Fatal Fists among others.

These are not all good reviews either. He trashes the script for Prophecy

But he also honors filmmakers like Roger Corman, who he covers in his Targets review.

Saying, "One of the coolest aspects of Roger Corman’s legendary legacy, is the unique, capitalist in nature, investments/experiments, he’d assign to his young protégés. Corman felt if he was flying to a location to make one of his movies that offered unique visual opportunities (as opposed to most of his other movies that he just shot all around Los Angeles or Bronson Canyon), the most expensive part of the expenditure, was the airplane tickets to get the cast and the crew to these locations."

And he's not just sharing his thoughts at the New Beverly.

This year Tarantino has quietly done a few podcasts where he talks about movies like Unstoppable

He also talked about Dunkirk and Boogie Nights in the last year.

It has been a busy one for Tarantino, debuting a new move and now even thinking about writing a novelization of it. He told Entertainment Weekly, "I hadn't thought about that until recently," said the director. "But now I'm thinking a lot about it. I might be writing a novelization to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."

And sure, he's still planning on directing more...but not just movies.

“As far as the Bounty Law shows, I want to do that, but it will take me a year and a half," the director told Deadline. "It got an introduction from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but I don’t really consider it part of that movie even though it is. This is not about Rick Dalton playing Jake Cahill. It’s about Jake Cahill. Where all this came from was, I ended up watching a bunch of Wanted, Dead or Alive, and The Rifleman, and Tales of Wells Fargo, these half-hour shows to get in the mindset of Bounty Law, the kind of show Rick was on. I’d liked them before, but I got really into them. The concept of telling a dramatic story in half an hour. You watch and think, wow, there’s a helluva lot of storytelling going on in 22 minutes. I thought, 'I wonder if I can do that?' I ended up writing five half-hour episodes. So I’ll do them, and I will direct all of them.”

Tarantino has always been vocal and interesting.

As we turn into this next decade I hope he keeps the reviews coming.

And makes a few more movies.

Not reviews. It's subtextual film criticism.
