Talia Lugacy (writer/director of indie film This is Not a War Story) and Chad Galster (editor of Yellowstone and 1883) demonstrate how there is no right or wrong way.
Success is hard to gauge. In truth, we need to find our own personal definitions for that word and chase specific goals that we find rewarding, and fulfilling not only as an endpoint... but as a journey.
What does that have to do with filmmaking? Kind of... everything.
Our guests on the podcast this week went very different routes, and have both found success and fulfillment.
Chad Galster went to a top film school, carved out a professional niche through endless dedication, and quickly found employment climbing the post-production ladder in Los Angeles.
On the other side of the country, Talia Lugacy left film school to work on sets, made connections, and slowly found her voice through non-stop writing and workshopping with actors, eventually making her own indie features.
Both of them have a unique voice and place in the world of filmmaking, with insights into career building as a process of knowing one's self, and learning to accent your own strengths and weaknesses.
