Panasonic previously announced major updates to several of its LUMIX series cameras, including the S1H to record Blackmagic RAW, the box-style BG1H getting ProRes RAW, and the S1 receiving several new features including the ability to record 6K and external ProRes RAW. You can now download firmware version 2.0 for the S1.

It is worth noting that before you can update to version 2.0, you must have already purchased the DMW-SFU2 update, which is an extra cost of $199. Essentially, it's a software key that unlocks video capabilities on the S1, including 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output, 4K 30p/24p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, and Panasonic's original V-Log color profile V-Log + V-Gamut from Varicam cinema cameras, among others.

Here's a recap of what's included in firmware version 2.0.

6K/5.9K/5.4K .MOV

  • 6K 24p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM
  • 5.9K 30p/25p/24p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM
  • 5.4K 30p/25p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM

4K DCI .MOV

  • C4K 60p/50p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM
  • C4K 60p/50p, 4:2:0 8bit LongGOP, 150Mbps, LPCM
  • C4K 30p/25p/24p, 4:2:2 10bit LongGOP, 150Mbps, LPCM

4K UHD .MOV

  • 4K 60p/50p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM

4K Anamorphic (3328x2496) .MOV

  • 4K-A 50p, 4:2:0 10bit LongGOP, 200Mbps, LPCM
  • 4K-A 50p, 4:2:0 8bit LongGOP, 150Mbps, LPCM
  • 4K-A 30p/25p/24p, 4:2:2 10bit LongGOP, 150Mbps, LPCM

With the new video formats, there are recording limits. 6K/5.9K/5.4K has a maximum continuous recording limit of 15 minutes. 4K DCI, 4K UHD, and 4K anamorphic  at 60/50p tops out at 29 minutes 59 seconds. When shooting 4K DCI at 30/25/24p, there is no recording limit. Same for 4K anamorphic at those frame rates.

Additionally, external RAW video is now available over HDMI at 5.9K 4K and anamorphic 3.5K. Atomos has already released firmware version 10.63 to enable ProRes RAW recording with the Ninja V. No word if Blackmagic RAW will come to the table. But since the S1H has both options, it would seem most likely down the line.
