I’ve been waiting for this one for quite some time, and after flipping through it quickly, it looks to be an absolutely essential read for filmmakers. I’m talking about the free eBook Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul, which is presented by Prescreen and is co-authored by full-service indie nonprofit The Film Collaborative, filmmaker and distribution guru Jon Reiss (I called his first book Think Outside the Box Office a “great gift for filmmakers“), and marketing strategist and social media expert Sheri Candler. It’s available in several eBook forms, including for iPhone, Kindle, Nook, and of course PDF. It’s free until October 1st. Go get it now. Or watch the trailer:

If you need some more convincing (did I mention it’s free?), here are some more selling points:

  • case studies of a number of narrative features and documentaries
  • spans across genres and demographic appeal
  • provides concrete and helpful examples of what to do and what not to do when it comes to independent film distribution
  • data and careful analysis from multiple points of view
  • something filmmakers and industry professionals seek
  • includes interviews with filmmakers to offer first-hand perspective
  • reveals numbers and real details in a totally transparent manner
  • the first of its kind, never been done before

  • This is awesome. I assume the only reason I’m the first to note this is because everyone else just clicked over there and got the book without looking back.

  • You’re not going to hear me complaining about this free book! Nothing like settling down in the evening with a nice .mobi to peruse.

  • The free download doesn’t seem to work for some reason–I just see a blank one page pdf. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Silly iTunes. Because I’m not in the USA, I can’t download the book.

  • @Villi Livin outside the states, experiance the same problem. So I thought I go for the PDF…

But like Brian, got only 1 white page.
Only when opened in Acrobat Pro, there is the whole text!!!

    Hope this helps.

  • Hope this helps with Man-Child. I’m confident that you make the kickstarter goal.

  • I have downloaded the PDF and it works fine. If you’re not in the US (like me) download that one, don’t waste time with itunes.
