Download a Free Call Sheet Template to Get Your Film Crew on the Same Page

call-sheet-template-lan-buiCall sheets are pretty essential to any shoot. They tell you where to be and when, who's who in the production, how to contact them, and all sorts of other important details you might need to know. We've shared some other free call sheets and production documents in the past, but if you're looking for something a little different, the team over at Cast and Crew Call has shared a very easy-to-use template.

Here is what Lan Bui had to say about what went into the making of this free call sheet template (thanks to Michael Murie of Notes On Video for sharing this):

I’ve looked high and hard for a great call sheet template… even a good call sheet template… even just a usable call sheet template!!! I was not able to find one that really did the job. I was always jealous when I got hired to go on set to DP a shoot and the call sheet was all nice and pretty and more importantly easy to read and looks easy to use! An easy to use call sheet was nowhere to be found.

So… I asked Microsoft Excel GURU, Chloe Mae Loop, to make one with me after consulting with one of my producers, Lindsey Koens on what all it should have on it. We built it from the ground up keeping ease of editing in mind. We pulled out a number of call sheets from commercials, TV shows, indy films, big feature films and made what we believe to be the a great easy to use call sheet.

There are two versions of the call sheet, one is a very complete two page version, another is a simplified one page version. Here is what the two page version looks like, which is available in both Mac and PC Excel versions:

And this is the simplified one page version, which is in a Google Doc form:

Head on over to the website to download the free templates, and also be sure to check out the previous free call sheet we shared called Casper from ThinkCrew.

That's a very solid call sheet. Better than plenty I've gotten on larger shoots.

I actually used this on a past shoot and had several issues. What you see in excel is not always what gets exported. Several cells will turn into ###### if you don't have them sized exactly perfect.

http://profilmdocs.com do a load of useful documents. There's a couple of free sample ones but the full pack is quite reasonable.

or use software like Celtx or Gorilla Pro with Koala templates and ripple link in to schedules and budgets! Why crew still use single word/Google docs is beyond me...

Because it's widely available, easy to use, easily accessible and everybody knows how to do it without first learning how.

I agree with the Celtx or Gorilla. It's not like the entire crew has a hand in creating the call sheet. The production dept. can simply use a single database (that what celts and Gorilla are), which allows for easy flow between programs, and for changes to propagate easily.

Having a shared doc, with multiple permissions sounds like it could be a nightmare.

Where's the area for crew call time? Cast call and crew call times should be different, ideally crew call is an hour earlier than cast call.

There's a new website that just came out called Easy Call Sheets (www.easycallsheets.com) where if you pretty much get unlimited everything and some custom branding (when it comes to sending out emails) and it's only $10 a month with a 14-day trial.
