JVC's Super 35 4K Camera, the LS300, is Now Less Than $4,000

JVC announced their affordable GY-LS300 way back in November, but we were able to learn a little bit more about this Super 35 4K camera today at NAB.

This is what the Panasonic announcement should have been - an AF200. MFT mount, 35mm sensor, XLR inputs, ND filters and a good price. On paper this camera looks really practical.

Yeah rec 709; I think they only understood half of the whole digital cinema revolution that is going on. The Pana DVX200 just became a lot more interesting, especially with no active EF option for this body yet.

...ZZzZZzz this guy makes me fall asleep and with the messy audio I just can't finish watching this one. Pro tip: if you are having audio problems stop the interview, fix them, then continue, it will help this guy get his story together as well....... I should probably stop watching these videos, they are terrible hah.

Yea I agree. What's up with that? There are crews from planet 5D, no film school etc doing interviews all over. one would expect a standard TV format at least.

Maybe not the way to go for digital cinema, but couple this with fotodiox's b4 adapter (the lens vignetting adjustment would help a lot to compensate) and you could have a cheapish run-and-gun documentary shooter with powered zoom.

This has to be the worst rep I've ever seen. He did his company and product no favors.

Ok, I can see that being a defensible point - not an easily defensible point, but I'm willing to hear the argument. He just threw it out there like it didn't need to be explained. I couldn't take anything he said after that seriously.

I'm looking at getting a camera and the LS300 is high up on the list, but JVC has done a terrible job at getting enough information out there for me to be able to pull the trigger. Where's the test footage? Where are the professional reviews?

Seems like a pretty decent option for a low budget 4K capable camera. Lots of lens options without many limitations with a user cropable sensor, that's a pretty cool feature. People balking at the Rec709 should keep in mind that makes the cameras image basically broadcast ready, and Rec709 should still be highly gradable. For new filmmakers, news shooters, corporate video makers etc. who don't need or want to be grading log footage, that's a perfect format. Need to know the DR though. The biggest disappointment here to me is that it can't do 10 bit output.

Are we sure about Rec709 "only". What about firmware updates etc? Also what is the actual spec? This guy was very vague and JVC have not really made things clear. Can it really not do 10bit? This is left wide open. Please could you go back there and nail down the details as this camera has sooooo much potential
