A24 Films has already provided a slew of screenplays for awards season consideration. Now they have made the screenplay available for their biggest awards contender this year, Room, adapted by Emma Donoghue from her best-selling novel.

Here's the trailer:

Novelists rarely adapt their books into screenplays — or get the opportunity to adapt their books into screenplays — for any number of reasons. Conventional wisdom seems to be that novelists are too close to their own material to cut their books down to the essentials required for the screenplay (or producers and studios may use this as an excuse not to hire novelists to adapt their own work). Last year, however, Gillian Flynn wrote a fantastic adaptation of her major bestseller Gone Girl, and this year, we get the chance to see how novelist Emma Donoghue has adapted her wildly successful novel Room into a screenplay. What makes Donoghue's adaptation from book to screenplay so fascinating is the challenge of translating the book's first person perspective of the story as seen through the eyes of a five-year-old boy and making it work for the big screen.
