I know claiming that editing is a simple—nay—super duper easy peasy—task may incur a bit of flack from those who have spent the lion's share of their adult lives in front of a timeline. And to those curmudgeonly complainers I have two words: drama queens. To get a truly accurate picture of what life is like as an editor, just check out this video from Lixi Studios.

Okay—I'm a liar, but only a half liar. Though editing is most definitely not an easy undertaking, this video provides a pretty undeniable explanation of what a day in the life of an editor looks like: logging data for hours, obsessing over minor issues, and editing for so many consecutive days that you forget what the world looks like beyond the edges of your computer screen.

This video definitely got me reminiscing. (Does anyone else have an embarrassingly massive collection of miniDVs?) My very first foray into editing had me sitting at a desk cutting for twelve straight hours, fueled by a diet of burgers and donut holes. And that's nothing compared to the editing marathons I'd go on after that, where food was but a distant memory of something I might've put in my mouth days before. (Pro Tip: Your editing turns to shit after 48 straight hours of no sleep and no food. You're not hardcore. You're tired, hungry, and probably making bad decisions.)
