Werner Herzog Masterclass: 'It Doesn't Matter if Your Character Spent Time in Jail'

Only Werner Herzog can unlock the chaos of the cinematic universe for you.

A couple months ago, we announced that the one and only Werner Herzog would be teaching an online masterclass for film students. Now, that time has come.

"It doesn't matter if your main character is an absolute pestilence, like Klaus Kinski, or if somebody's illiterate, or has spent time in jail, or is the girlfriend of your producer," Herzog says in the below exclusive clip from MasterClass. "It only matters what you see onscreen."

Here's a trailer for the class, and click here for access to the class in full. It costs $90 and includes 6+ hours of video lessons, a 37-page class workbook, collaborative learning sessions, and selected individual Q&As from Herzog.

If you want more from MasterClass, here's an upcoming class from Aaron Sorkin on screenwriting. And here are some life lessons from Herzog

The writer should have pointed this out but Herzog means actor not character.

I disagree with him. Of course it matters, because if it helps the actor portray that character you see on screen, then it matters.
