Sony and Canon have been battling over memory for years, since Canon opted for its cameras to take on the CFast format as a direct competition to the XQD card format that Sony helped develop. But with more and more cameras requiring more and more storage and faster speeds to capture higher-resolution footage, Sony has apparently decided to opt for the "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em approach", and has come out with its own line of CFast cards.

The G Series CFast 2.0 memory cards will be available in 32GB (CAT-G32), 64GB (CAT-G64) and 128GB (CAT-G128) sizes, with reported write speeds of up to 510MB/s and read speeds of up to 530MB/s.

According to a press release from Sony, "As well as ultra-fast read and write speeds, the new CFast cards support VPG130 for reliable recording of Cinema-grade or high-bitrate 4K video. A minimum sustained write speed of 130MB/s is guaranteed, making the new media ideal for stable recording of professional grade 4K video, such as Cinema RAW light mode with Canon C200 video cameras."

The suggested retail pricing of the Sony cards is in line with competing models from Lexar and SanDisk. Sony’s cards will be available early next year for $119.99 for 32GB, $199.99 for 64GB and $349.99 for 128GB.
