As the United States draws closer to the inevitable shit storm that will be Oscar, the UK celebrated its own filmic tastes last night at the 72nd British Academy Film Awards. Turns out they're pretty good!

Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite was the big winner with seven awards on the night, beating out even the Golden Globe-winning Bohemian Rhapsody in the Outstanding British Film category. Rami Malek continued on his path towards what looks like a clean sweep in the best leading actor category, however.

While Roma may have come second in awards, quantity wise, quality wise it took home the BAFTAs for Best Film, Director, Cinematography, and Film Not in the English Language. What's more, members of the British public were even treated to a televised presentation of Cuaron's cinematography award, something that cannot be said will be true for American audiences during the upcoming Academy Awards.

Also, a shout out is deserved for nominating Lynne Ramsey's incredible You Were Never Really Here for anything. That's all.
