To create balance in film this year, Alto Studio Tuscany is placing a special emphasis on emerging women filmmakers for an intensive film, video and photography program in Lucca, Italy at the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Are you an emerging filmmaker looking to not only hone your filmmaking chops? In addition to digital video the program is also introducing 16mm film to learn how to shoot and hand process their work in traditional chemicals as well as experiment with green tea. (Does that sound awesome or what!)

Alto Studio Tuscany

Some people have a list of things to do before they die, and coming to Tuscany will teach you not just how to be a filmmaker, but how to live. The Alto Studio Tuscany Summer Arts Study in Italy is an intensive Film/Video/Photography program during which the participants will make films.

In addition to Digital Video we introduced 16mm film to our students who shot and hand processed their work in traditional chemicals as well as an experimental roll processed in Green Tea. It looks great!

A Once in a Lifetime Experience

In prior years, the program has gone to Bologna to tour the Cinetech di Bologna, a major film restoration facility. This year we’ll travel for a wild night in Pisa for the Luminara [Festival of Lights]!

Upon the completion of the five-week program, a group show/opening and a night of screenings of all Alt Studio Work will take place in Lucca. Following our return to the United States, the student’s work will be exhibited in New York in October 2019.
