Is Video-flation Here? The Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapters Prices Are Rising Quickly
Not a great sign for the cost of non-AI-driven video production.
Unlike many other industries which have really felt the effects of inflation and post-COVID-19 supply chain issues over the past few years, the film and video industry has been largely undeterred by rising prices. Yes, there were sensor and chip supply chain chaoses that have seen a decrease in new cameras shipped and possibly being released.
Yet the industry has still seen a steady stream of new cameras being both announced and shipped. While there are some new breakthrough higher-end cinema cameras on the market, most of the newer releases have ebbed towards smaller, cheaper, and easy-to-use for hybrid content creators (like Canon’s new R100, the manufacturer’s smallest, lightest and cheapest camera yet, for example).
However, with some online reports indicating a price increase set to come to some important Canon products like their EF-EOS R mount adapters, there might be signs of a coming “video-flation” set to finally catch up to the industry—at the very least in some small ways.

Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapters
According to Canon Rumors, the Canon EF-EOS R mount adapters are going to be going up very soon and “possibly by the first week of July.”
These price increases are set to hit both the standard EF-EOS R mount adapter as well as the control ring EF-EOS R mount adapter and both “will go up $50.”
Not a huge price increase off the bat you might say, but with the EF-EOS R mount adapter retailing at $99 currently, a $50 increase is actually a pretty substantive jump. Meanwhile, the control right mount adapter for the EF-EOS R is currently retailing at $149 and is set to go up to $199 as well.
This EF-EOS R mount adapter in particular is a pretty popular Canon product that bridges the gap between any videographer’s existing EF lens collection and Canon’s new EOS R mirrorless digital camera line. As someone who invested heavily in a Canon 5D (and 7D) gear setup back in the day, adapters like these are quite important when making the transition to the EOS R mirrorless.
Will Other Cameras or Products See Price Increases?
That’s the big question here. Taken in a vacuum, a single (or in this case dual) product price increase isn’t a huge deal. From the looks of things, this same report doesn’t indicate any other price increases at this point.
But with what we’ve seen with some other industry inflations and long-delayed supply chain delays, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some of the same issues eventually catch up with the film and video world.
Canon is a huge, legacy brand though with teams and productions across the globe. So hopefully any single delay issues should be mitigable just due to their vast reach and resources. However, it’s still interesting that a price increase would hit this product now.
Consider Purchasing Before Prices Increase
Out last piece of advice and insight might simply be that—if you’re someone interested in a Canon EF-EOS R mount adapter or control ring mount adapter—you should probably make your purchases now as these price increases aren’t set to go up until the end of the month according to the reports above.
Here are the full specs and current prices for each of the adapters below if you’d like to make your investment now rather than later.
