Initially launched in January 2020, the first Insta360 ONE R was a modular and waterproof action cam with interchange lenses that were co-engineered with Leica.

Now the successor is here. The Insta360 ONE RS is said to offer creators an all-in-one package that is both versatile and without compromises.

But is that true? Let’s dig into the details to find out.

The Insta360 ONE RS

The new action cam uses a three-part design originally pioneered with the original ONE R. It includes one battery, one processor, and three quick-swapping lenses, each with its own sensor. This allows users the ability to transform a traditional action cam into a powerful creative tool with 360 degrees.

One of the new additions to the Insta360 ONE RS is the 4K Boost Lens that provides an upgraded 1/2" 48MP image sensor with sharp 4K video at 60fps videos and 48MP stills. The new lens is also compatible with the ONE R generation of action cams, so creatives can upgrade at their own pace.

The 48MP image sensor gives filmmakers and adrenaline junkies detailed wide-angle video and photo capabilities, while the Core is said to provide better in-camera stabilization and crisper audio.

In addition, Insta360’s proprietary FlowState Stabilization is now processed and delivered through the camera's hardware, giving users quicker access to their content without having to use the app or external hardware.

Built Tough

With a new rugged design, the Insta360 is IPX8 waterproof up to 16 feet. The new Core also offers 50% faster WiFi and an additional mic with a windproof mic cover for better audio.

An Instant Zoom function allows for a 2.7x digital zoom while recording videos, while the Quick menu offers easy access to preset and different shooting modes.

The mounting bracket has also been redesigned. A quick-release mechanism allows creatives to swap lenses on the fly, and the addition of a heat-dissipating panel ensures your new camera stays cool while you rampage through the desert or other exotic locales.

More Than Meets the Eye

The ONE RS also doubles as a 360-degree livestreaming camera when creatives use it with the Insta360 app. It also works as a webcam when connected to a computer.

Thanks to its modular design, the camera is not only future-proof but backward-compatible with previous modules from the R line.

The previously released 5.7K 360 lens offers some impressive creative opportunities with the Invisible Selfie Stick effect and 360 reframing. The 5.3K 1-Inch Wide Angle Lens that was co-engineered with Leica offers killer image quality from a 1-inch sensor.
