Blackmagic Camera for Android Update Focuses on PYXIS 6K and URSA Cine Cameras

With NAB 2025 in Las Vegas squarely in our review mirror now, we can look ahead to new and exciting updates set to come from some of the biggest brands as they continue to roll out new versions and improvements for some of their most popular cameras and products.
The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K was one of the biggest stories of NAB 2025, yet even with Blackmagic Design working insanely quick to announce and release these new cameras, ones they announced and released last year (like the PYXIS 6K, for example) are still being caught up on their own products like Blackmagic Camera for Android.
This latest 2.1 update for Blackmagic Camera for Android is set to add support for remotely controlling the PYXIS 6K and other Blackmagic URSA Cine cameras. Let’s look at everything new coming to Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.1 and how you can download and install it today.
What’s new in Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.1
Again, the big news here is the added support for remote control of some of Blackmagic Design’s most popular camera models and lines. The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K finally gets remote control from your Blackmagic Camera for Android app, plus Blackmagic is expanding remote control capabilities to the whole lineup of URSA Cine cameras.
The other big news here is the added audio to off-speed recordings, which should be quite helpful, as well as support for motorized gimbals like the Insta360 gimbal. There are some new zebra options for mid-grey region and null threshold, and this update also added a color space tag option for your LUTs.
There are also some minor resolution and frame rate compatibility improvements for select Samsung, Sony, and Xiaomi models, along with your usual mix of general performance and stability improvements.
