Apple and Peter Farrelly Are Making 'The Greatest Beer Run Ever'
Apple is getting loaded, trying for another splash in feature films.
Peter Farrelly is back after taking home an Academy Award for Green Book. And he's trying to get hammered.
Deadline reports that Apple Studios is in talks to finance The Greatest Beer Run Ever, with Zac Efron and Russell Crowe potentially to star. Bill Murray is being courted for a supporting role. Farrelly will take over the director's chair for this epic adventure, for which he co-wrote the script with Brian Currie and Pete Jones.
The project is based on the bestselling book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty and War by Chick Donahue and J.T. Molloy. The book's summary reads, "One night in 1967, 26-year-old John Donohue—known as Chick—was out with friends, drinking in a New York City bar. The friends gathered there had lost loved ones in Vietnam. Now, they watched as anti-war protesters turned on the troops themselves. One neighborhood patriot came up with an inspired—some would call it insane—idea. Someone should sneak into Vietnam, track down their buddies there, give them messages of support from back home, and share a few laughs over a can of beer. It would be the Greatest Beer Run Ever."
That sounds incredibly epic, hilarious, and has to be one of the funnier summaries I have read.
Farrelly choosing to come over to Apple after his box office and critical success for Green Book is huge. No word on whether or not the movie would get a theatrical and app release, but it is probably too soon to tell.
