Actress Olivia Wilde's directorial debut, Booksmart, premiered at SXSW 2019 last night to rapturous social media praise and reviews. Now a trailer has dropped announcing the film's summer arrival in theaters.

Following two students on the last day of their senior year of high school, two girls, perceived as booksmart by their peers, decide to let loose and go party the night away. It's a situation that's totally out of their shared experience, and so they go way over their heads and into some illegal hijinx. Pepper spray usage, alcohol consumption, and criminal arrests ensue. The answer to the question of what could go wrong? Everything.

With an all-star supporting cast made up of comedy reliables (Will Forte, Lisa Kudrow, and Jason Sudeikis) and Executive Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, Booksmart looks to be in the same vein as high school comedies set over a 24-hour time period where things go from bad to worse.

Lensed by cinematographer Jason McCormick (who shot No Film School's own Jason Hellerman's film Shovel Buddies), Booksmart should be an intrinsically visual delight, and it will be interesting to follow where Wilde's career as a director leads her.
