Let's take flight!

Autel Robotics made a splash during CES 2020 announcing its EVO II drone series that includes options for 8K and 6K image capture. At CES 2021, the company added a thermal imaging option in the EVO II Dual 640T, a new RTK series, and Dragonfish, a highly capable commercial drone capable of flying for two hours.

Since the launch of the EVO II series, it's been somewhat flying under the radar, but I was able to get my hands on the EVO II Pro and compare it to the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. The results might surprise you.

Check out the video below.

EVO II Pro

  • 1" CMOS Sensor, 20MP
  • 6K and HDR Video
  • Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance
  • 48MP Stills
  • Built-In Screen Remote Controller
  • 40 Minute Flight Time
  • 3-Axis Gimbal
  • $1,795 w/ controller

DJI Mavic 2 Pro

  • 1" CMOS Sensor, 20MP
  • 4K UHD and HDR video
  • Adjustable Aperture
  • OcuSync 2.0
  • 48MP Stills
  • 31 Minute Flight Time
  • 3-Axis Gimbal
  • $2,049 w/ controller

DJI will certainly update the Mavic 2 soon. We'll most likely see the new version use the latest DJI remote and push the image capabilities of the sensor to new heights. To exactly what extent, we'll just have to wait and find out.

Very interesting. You're right, not many people ever show what the Autel can do and even fewer do a comparison with the Mavic. I've been in the shooting game a long time and I have never been a fan of these intermediate formats like 2K and 6K, which is why I have never considered buying the Autel to upgrade from the Mavic 2. As a big part of my business these days is stock footage I must stay ahead of the game, so my next drone MUST have 8K video whether it be from Autel or DJI and I will just have to wait till that happens.
