Denis Villeneuve Says Marvel Movies Are "Cut and Paste" from Other Films
Denis Villeneuve wants to see movies with a sense of themselves, and not of others.
In a recent interview, Dune director Denis Villeneuve told El Mundo his opinion on Marvel movies.
"There are too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a cut and paste of others," he said.
Villeneuve joins filmmakers like Martin Scorsese who have criticized what can be seen as movies designed to look like one another as a product and nothing more. This content feels much more like television than it does movies, as directors take the helm and mimic one another to deliver another chapter in an ongoing story.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and this will certainly cause a bit of a stir. Despite Marvel's attempts to bring in a wide array of directors, they all do look alike, mostly because they have to keep the continuity of the universe together.
We have high hopes for Eternals, because we know Chloé Zhao pitched it using images from Villeneuve movies, but we do see the director's point of view.
