DJI has initiated a new program under its DJI Care Fresh service that covers drones that inadvertently fly away and become lost. The Flyaway Coverage is available for its Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2, and if you already purchased DJI Care Fresh, it's included going forward.

With the service, a drone that's been lost during flight can be replaced at a lower cost. Under the coverage the cost to replace the Mavic Air 2 is $399 and the Mini 2 is $225.

Brand new, the Mavic is priced at $799 and the Mini is $449. Keep in mind, that's on top of the DJI Care Fresh plan ($49 or Mini, $79 for Mavic). Even with the added cost, you still come out ahead, saving about 40% off the original cost.

The one-year plan also allows you to replace the drone due to damage for $49 twice a year in addition to one-time replacement under the Flyaway Coverage. DJI offers a two-year plan with three replacements, and two times to use Flyaway.

While we don't expect drones to fly off on their own, it can happen. In our review of the Mini 2, we found the drone could be easily pushed around by prevailing winds because of its lightweight design. If you live in a mountainous or windy area, at least you can have some comfort in knowing an AWOL drone won't break your bank account.
