The Big Question: Did Rue Die?

Yes. It is devastating to write this, but Rue Bennett is dead.

The tragic twist happens right in the middle of the episode. After escaping Laurie’s compound with the help of G (Marshawn Lynch), Rue lands in the hands of Alamo's crew.

Alamo tells her she’s the "employee of the year" and hands her a bottle of Percs. He does so knowing she's an addict and says, "That's for the physical pain. Not that shit up in your head."

So we kind of are left to assume he knows what he's doing here.

She visits her sponsor, but gets into a manic state and hallucinates a fake news report on TV claiming that Fezco broke out of prison.

Rue goes nuts, while possibly already on the drugs, and races to her childhood home, where she breaks through a police barricade. Inside, she sees a vision of her estranged mother, Leslie, holding out her hand.

But that's when we realize it's all in her head and Rue is high again. She's actually on Ali's couch and is OD'ing.

Ali finds her body, tests the pills, and pounds the counter in agony before calling Leslie with the worst news a mother could hear.

Yeah, it's so freaking bleak.

There's one glimmer of hope, because as the episode ends, Ali visits the religious family Rue met in the season premiere.

When they ask about her, Ali tells them that "She's in a better place."

The series ends with a heartbreakingly peaceful shot of Rue looking genuinely happy, closing the show with a voiceover: "May God bless us all."

So we kind of think she's in heaven after all this trauma.

What Happened to the Rest of the Cast?

Now that we know what happened to Rue, let's check in on how the finale closed the book on the remaining characters of East Highland.

Ali and Maddy’s Revenge

Ali is pretty mad when rue dies. He goes to AA and says he's done and het gets a gun to seek revenge on Alamo for giving Rue the pills.

He heads to the strip club to finish the job and there's a fiery shootout.

Alamo tries to use Maddy as a human shield, but Ali manages to outsmart and shoot him dead. With Alamo out of the picture, Maddy finally gets her freedom back and no longer has to pay the debt she owes Alamo.

So that's sort of happy?

Cassie’s New "Career"

This season found Cassie naked like Godzilla and doing OnlyFans after her husband, Nate (Elordi) was killed by the mafia for borrowing money.

Now, she runs the hpuse Nate left her as a hype house for other online creators. She;s obsessed with fame and getting love from people online, but is mostly broken.

Lexi and Jules

Lexi is trying to handle life through faith and reflection. She's been reading the Bible Rue left at her place and deeply regrets how she treated Rue before her death.

She even gives Cassie a long lecture on morality and the world that goes over Cassie's head but shows Lexi's heart is in the right place.

Meanwhile, Jules has a brief but poignant moment where she paints a portrait of Rue to remember her.

Kitty and Fezco

Kitty leaves the strip club with Maddy after Ali's raid. We sort of implicitly understand that she will likely end up living in Cassie's OnlyFans content house.

As for Fezco, the late Angus Cloud makes a bittersweet appearance in a flashback woven into Rue's final, tragic dream sequence but there were not other scenes with him.

East Highland High School Sucks

I just want to take a beat here to ay the high school all these kids went to sucks. Their entire graduaring class is either dead, in jail, or on OnlyFans.

Really, only Lexi made it out in a somewhat okay state.

We gotta ge the educational sysem in this country under control.

Summing It All Up

Euphoria was never a show about happy endings, but the finale was kind of a sobering look at addiciton and the fallout caused by wanton drugs and sex.

Sam Levinson chose to end the story with some bleaker aspects of addiviton, but also a little bit of spiritual power that maybe you can get through thigns and see thel ight on the other side.

How are you feeling about the finale? Did Rue's ending feel earned, or are you completely devastated?

Let's discuss in the comments below.
