No Film School is in the midst of reviewing DJI's RS 2 and RSC 2 gimbals, but FeiyuTech has announced the AK2000C, a compact gimbal that costs less than half the price of the RSC 2. Let's see what you're getting with the savings.

Key Features

  • Max payload <5 lbs (2.2 kg)
  • OLED Touchscreen
  • ARCA Quick Release System
  • 3-axis Motor Locks
  • ~7-Hour Runtime
  • USB-C Quick Charging

FeiyuTech has been around for over a decade, making affordable action cameras, smartphone gimbals, and DSLR/mirrorless gimbals. The company was first to offer a waterproof action cam gimbal, which put them on the map for water enthusiasts and creators.

The biggest difference between the AK2000C and RSC 2 is payload capacity. The AK2000C tops off at just under 5 lbs, while the RSC 2 has a dynamic payload of 6.6 lbs. So if you have a light setup, say 3-4 lbs, the FeiyuTech might be worth considering.

It's made from an aluminum alloy body and has a similar compact shape to the Ronin-S, weighing only 12.5 lbs (1078 g). It features a quick-release plate to allow for easy camera mounting, a three-axis motor lock to make balancing easier, and a lockable OLED touchscreen to navigate operation modes.

The three-axis gimbal can shoot timelapses, be put in selfie mode or portrait shooting, and offers what FeiyuTech calls Inception mode, which is their version of a 360° camera roll. If you find yourself shooting underslung a lot, FeiyuTech does offer an optional handle that can be mounted on top of the rig to easily switch positions. They also offer a wireless mic kit, an extension bar if you want to shoot from a higher (or lower) angle, and other accessories.

FeiyuTech says users should expect around 7 hours of battery life and about 12 in standby mode. They've also included a USB-C quick charge option that fully charges the gimbal in only 1.5 hours.
