I love a great animated short film. They feel adventurous and creative. It's so hard to make them engaging, but when they work, we care about the story. Animated short jobs are not easy to get, because they're usually self-financed. Unless you find a company or charity that wants to try to get their message out wide.

Meet Ralph, the new spokes-bunny of the global campaign to ban animal testing of cosmetics for the Humane Society.

The movie, Save Ralphis a powerful stop-motion animation short film produced by Humane Society International, featuring an all-star multinational cast including Taika Waititi, Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron, Olivia Munn, Pom Klementieff, Rodrigo Santoro, Tricia Helfer, and more.

Oscar-winner Waititi is the voice of Ralph, who is being interviewed for a documentary as he goes through his daily routine as a “tester” in a lab.

Spencer Susser, the director of Save Ralph, says, “It's so important that Ralph feels real because he represents countless real animals who suffer every day.”

While I did laugh at moments, this was a rather tragic story that cut through the noise to deliver the message. Ralph has a literal blind eye and can only hear a ringing in one ear—oh, and his body is covered by chemical burns.

The story, shot documentary style, allows us to get the animal's testimony about the importance of his work... which he never should be doing in the first place.

This ironic series of events adds humor, but also makes the message so easily accessible to the audience, It never feels boring or preachy, it just makes us empathize with the bunny's plight.

I think this is an effective study in getting the audience on your side, and it's nice seeing celebs lend their voices to a cause. When you're making a message movie, you can usually get talent on board if you are discussing something they deeply care about.
