Where Does Porn Fit Into Tarantino's 'The Movie Critic'?

Everyone has been buzzing about Quentin Tarantino's final film. We know it's calledThe Movie Critic and that it takes place in the 1970s. Now, Tarantino told Deadline that pre-production will take place in June, and he's searching for an actor in their mid-thirties to star in the film. 

Tarantino elaborated on everything, saying The Movie Critic takes place in California in 1977, and "is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”

The story comes from Tarantino's teen years when he was reading these kinds of magazines for the articles. He said, “All the other stuff was too skanky to read, but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page.”

Tarantino expanded on this idea, “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic. Think about Travis’ diary entries.”

The character sounds very interesting, and Tarantino didn't hold back, saying, “But the porno rag critic was very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell.”

Tarantino had to research this man's life, digging into the past to uncover parts of his script. “He wrote like he was 55 but he was only in his early to mid-30s. He died in his late thirties. It wasn’t clear for a while but now I’ve done some more research and I think it was it was complications due to alcoholism.”

We can't wait to see where Tarantino takes The Movie Critic and will be first in line when it debuts.
