The Fast & Furious franchise kicked off as a movie about an undercover cop infiltrating a street racing gang to get intel after a series of robberies. That cop, Brian Walker, was portrayed by Paul Walker, who instantly became a star alongside Vin Diesel.

The two of them turned this action movie into a global phenomenon, and the world of the movies expanded into spies and world-ending disasters they had to thwart.

These movies defined the action genre with its high-octane stunts and themes of family.

But Paul Walker's tragic passing in 2013 left a void in the hearts of fans and in the narrative of the films. His character was given a touching and respectful send-off in Furious 7, driving off into the sunset to take care of his family.

It was a moment that served as a beautiful tribute to the actor. And it genuinely floored me when I saw it because it was so tasteful and respectful, love radiated out of it.

But as we near the 11th movie and end of the franchise, this may not be the last we've seen of Brian....and of Paul Walker in these movies.

Over the weekend, Vin Diesel hinted that to have an 11th movie, they had to bring Brian...and Paul Walker back.

Speaking at the recent Fuel Fest in Pomona, California, Diesel, alongside co-star Tyrese Gibson and Paul Walker's brother, Cody Walker, dropped a bombshell.

Diesel told the crowd, “Just yesterday I was with Universal Studios… The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of ‘Fast and Furious’ [in] April 2027?’ I said, ‘Under three conditions, because I’ve been listening to my fan base,’” he said. “The first is to bring the franchise back to L.A. The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner. That is what you’re going to get in the finale.”

This revelation, of course, raises many questions.

The final installment, Fast & Furious 11, is slated for a 2027 release, and while Paul Walker's sendoff in the seventh movie was handled with CGI and his brothers serving as body doubles for a few scenes, that chapter seemed totally behind us.

So, how could they come full circle back to Los Angeles, do street racing, and bring Brian back?

While the studio has yet to officially confirm how O'Conner's reappearance will be handled, Diesel's comments suggest a commitment to honoring the legacy of Paul Walker and his iconic character.

Maybe it's just another send off from afar, where we see him fleeting....or maybe it's something like what they did in Rogue One, where we have a full CGI character throughout the movie. To me, that would be incredibly weird, and I think it would set off a lot of uncanny valley worries.

Another idea would just be using one of Paul Walker's brothers and having them play the role. Or recasting Brian with another actor as well.

Those feel more likely than the fully CGI version, but it leaves a lot of questions until we officially hear how it's going.

Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting to see how the filmmakers navigate this challenge and deliver a send-off that is both spectacular and heartfelt. One thing is for sure: the final ride will be one to remember.
