Here's How Fuji Makes Their Lenses

We've seen how complicated the internals are for Canon and Nikon lenses, and now Fujifilm has released a video showing just what it takes to craft the XF series lenses for their mirrorless cameras:

Again, I personally could watch hours of this stuff, but even lenses you think are kind of cheap are not easy to make. It takes many hours and quite a few skilled workers to bring these lenses to life.

One thing I always find fascinating about these videos it the equipment. It's not just in lens making but, the giant equipment used to make these are unique. I assume there are barely any made in the world, and it's used to help mass produce something else. Maybe it's just me, but it's fascinating to think of a product that is only created a handful of times.

I wish they'd shown the lens grinding/polishing process and machinery for a bit longer; the machines are interesting to watch. There are probably some longer videos online though. With all that hand work (not to mention research, development and engineering time), it's no surprise that good lenses are so expensive.
