The internet is a magnificent place. Without it, we may never have heard of visual artist Mike Leavitt, whose strange hybrid creature-auteur sculptures are, in one nerd's opinion, some of the most drool-worthy pop art out there. These are some truly unique (and hilarious) designs which put an awesome twist on a growing market of collectibles, vinyl, and merchandising perpetuated by outlets like Mondo and Spoke Art.

Leavitt's online bio reads: "American visual artist ReMike, aka Mike Leavitt, is a 38-year-old making dolls in his basement, articulating the voice of a generation in need of action heroes."

Leavitt's King Cuts exhibition was on display in June at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York City. It featured 16 hand carved wooden figures depicting some of our greatest directors merged into some sort of weird chimera of their most iconic characters.

All figures are 1:4 in scale, 18 inches tall or wide, and sculpted from scratch in wood and polymer clay. Check them out below.
