Drones have made it easier than ever to see our world from new perspectives—to capture the world in and all its glory. One of the videos that reminds us of just how glorious it is is this one entitled Rise from filmmaker Michael Shainblum, who took to the skies to film the rugged coastline and verdant forests of Oregon, revealing just how beautiful the landscape of this Pacific Northwest state truly is.
"Oregon is a compositional wonderland."
Shainblum used both a Phantom 4 and Phantom 3 drone to film this video, which was his very first attempt at aerial videography. He managed to capture much of what Oregon's most famous for (other than a Duck football game or episode of Portlandia), winding rivers, lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and vivid lavender sunset over Mt. Hood.
Here's a little backstory not only on how Shainblum put this project together, but how his passion for aerial cinematography came to be:
This project started for me in 2015 when I first got into aerial photography, I would take many road trips through Oregon gathering more and more footage. Until my hard drives had over 16 hours of aerial content to sort through. My love and passion for UAV filming and photography happened after the first time I went out flying.
Being an Oregon native, I might be a little biased, but this place truly is a sight to behold. In fact, a huge winter storm just hit the Pacific Northwest and the resulting freezing rain turned every tree (and there are a lot in these parts) into what looked like glass figures—and that was just right outside my building. (It more than made up for all of the power outages.)
