If you need to capture some product shots, you might not need to purchase a professional light box to do it. There are plenty of ways to make your own, but photographer Chris Kuga shares his approach in this helpful DIY tutorial. In order to follow along, all you'll need is to get your hands on a large cardboard box, some poster board, and a couple of clamp lights. Check it out below to learn how to make one of your own.

Here are all of the materials you're going to need:

  • A large cardboard box
  • Poster board
  • (2) Clamp lights
  • Tape
  • Xacto knife
  • Sharpie

The thing I like about this particular DIY light box tutorial is that it employs a dual light setup that really makes the images look fantastic. We've actually covered an almost identical tutorial earlier this month, but the resulting images looked flat and unprofessional. Perhaps there wasn't much if any post work done on those images, but it looked like the lighting, which consisted of a single clamp light illuminating the scene from the top, was the main culprit for this sub par look.

This tutorial, yes, shows you yet another way to build a light box, but it also shows you how important lighting is when getting product shots.
