Watch: Slow Motion Porn from Phantom's 11,750 fps Camera

The new Phantom v2640 ultra high-speed camera offers an astonishing 11,750 fps in full HD.  

Vision Research knows how to slow things down. When the Phantom Flex came out in 2011 it touted 2,570 fps at 1920 x 1080, which was an unprecedented degree of flexibility in high-speed image capture. The company soon bumped resolution offering the Flex4K at 1,000 fps, and now, they've packed a staggering amount of processing power in the Phantom v2640 capable of capturing 11,750 fps in full HD. 

The camera's 4-Megapixel CMOS sensor has a native resolution of 2048 x 1952 up to 6,600 fps and can capture 2048 x 1440 at 8,800 fps, 1792 x 720 at 19,690 fps and more all the way down to 1792 x 8 at 303,460 fps. While the 27.6 mm x 26.3 mm sensor delivers 12-bit footage at its full resolution it can only do so for 7.8 seconds onto its high-speed internal RAM (72 GB, 144 GB or 288 GB). Longer record times are available when using 1 TB or 2 TB external CineMag cartridges.  

The v2640 offers four operating modes including Standard mode with Correlated Double Sampling, a High-Speed mode that provides up to 34% more throughput, as well as Standard Binned and High-Speed Binned modes offering increased monochrome sensitivity up to ISO 25,000. As you could imagine, it supports multiple recording formats like Cine, Cine Compressed, Cine RAW, AVI, h.264 mp4 and Apple ProRes. It has two standard HD-SDI outputs, record triggering, a viewfinder port and a ton of other features alongside its impressive dynamic range. 

Available mounts include Nikon F (supports F&G styles), Canon EOS and C-mount as well as options for PL. No word on price, but our guess would be in the six-figure range.

So what would be the target market for something like this? Industrial, medical, research as is alluded to in the video (titles)? I would live to see a (video) case study of this camera used in a technical setting solving a problem or advancing some science! ...ok geek mode off lol

Broadcast TV. Anything with sports, shooting or driving. Science stuff too. The mudane appears magical at 11k fps.

Sports I doubt...as the Super Bowl this year (read that huge audience / production budget) only had a couple of high frame rate cameras and those were only like 600-800 fps.... now shooting ...there is an interesting application. I will agree that super slow mo does make the ordinary look extraordinary!

I think the target market will be
1. rental houses and
2. the Slow Mo Guys youtube channel ;)

Seriously, I think at least 95% of these cameras go to rental houses where they are rented once in a while by someone who wants to get a cool effects shot for a music video, commercial or something like that. Or research of course.
