Entering your short film in the My RØDE Reel competition is kind of a no-brainer. As we've posted before, the contest offers categories for just about any style and genre of filmmaking—from horror flick to music video—with a million dollars in prizes up for grabs. The only question left is when to enter. Well, RØDE has added an extra incentive to submit a short film this month.

While the final deadline isn't until the end of July, if you submit by May 31 in the VR, Vlog, Cameraphone or Pitch categories, you'll automatically get a VideoMicro to use in future productions. RØDE's compact, on-camera microphone will come in handy when shooting your inevitable second contest entry! (Note that some restrictions apply.)

To up the ante (and get you inspired), RØDE has entered its own film into the competition. For the first time this year, the company held a preliminary scriptwriting challenge called My RØDE Script to inspire creatives to write a screenplay for a 3-minute film. The winner was offered a trip to Sydney and the opportunity to film and direct their script with the in-house RØDE Production Crew, and seasoned filmmakers from Main Course Films, Clara Chong and Ben Allan, ACS. A script by Canada’s Dawson Heistad was selected, and the results of Heistad's collaboration with the RØDE team—a thriller called BUGGED—can be seen below.

If you want to see how they did it (or get some pointers on how to create your own BTS video for the contest), check out the contest's Tips & Inspo. Think you can do better? Get to shooting, and enter here by July 31, 2018.
