Watch: 'Bumblebee' Promises a 1990s-Style Optimus Prime
Unapologetic explosions AND a coming-of-age movie? How did we get so lucky?!
The trailer for the upcoming Bumblebee movie has it all. It's packed with nostalgia, action. and laughs...but I was really looking forward to seeing the Transformers I played with as a kid. When I saw the movie was set in the 1980s, I couldn't beleieve my eyes.
Now, according to IMDB, the logline for Bumblebee is "On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken."
But the real exctiting thing about the movie was that the toys I had as a kid were coming to life.
I can't help but geek out over the character designs. And today, thanks to a behind-the-scenes featurette, we got a look at the retro Optimus Prime. As a big fan of the cartoon and animted film, I was happy to see this movie playing to both modern fans and those who want to wax nostalgic.
The movie comes out around Christmas, so I guess I have a month to dig out all the toys in my parents' basement and prepare myself for the movie I wish I had when I was 10 years old.
Who's going with me?
