Made up of 17 branches, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is best well known (and universally recognized) for being the organization that hosts the annual Academy Awards each winter. That's right, the AMPAS puts on the highly anticipated "Oscars" ceremony, and to win a shiny gold man remains the highest achievement throughout the motion picture industry.

However, the AMPAS does more than just hand out these extremely competitive awards one night out of the calendar year. The organization also funds "filmmaker-friendly" programs complementary to artists and schedules monthly screenings with special guest filmmakers in person (word is that an Academy museum is also in the works).

The AMPAS also hosts the annual Governors Awards each November, presenting legendary figures in the industry with honorary Academy Awards over a celebratory dinner. These special Oscars used to be handed out during the Academy Awards ceremony itself, but, in an effort to maximize the honoring of these men and women's achievements, a special evening was planned focused solely on them.

Last weekend, the 10th annual Governors Awards took place in Hollywood, California, celebrating the work of composer Lalo Schifrin, actress Cicely Tyson, publicist Marvin Levy, and producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy. Scroll down below to watch the speeches (both of the recipients and their presenters) from the ceremony.
