Listen up, varmints, I have been waiting for twelve years to see what has happened in the town of Deadwood, and now we are getting our chance.

The first trailer for the movie is here!

The Deadwood movie brings back most of the original creative team for one last stand in the old west. And it debuts on HBO on May 31st!

Here's the teaser trailer!

David Milch is writing the movie, and Daniel Minahan will direct. I'm excited and optimistic about Minahan as the director. He did four of the best Deadwood episodes -- A Two-Headed Beast (2006), Advances, None Miraculous (2005), Mister Wu (2004),  Suffer the Little Children (2004) -- and I've loved his work on Game of Thrones as well.

This movie takes place a decade after the original series ended and it looks like we're getting most of the original cast: Ian McShane (Al Swearengen), Timothy Olyphant (Seth Bullock), Molly Parker (Alma Ellsworth), Paula Malcomson (Trixie), John Hawkes (Sol Star), Anna Gunn (Martha Bullock), Dayton Callie (Charlie Utter), Brad Dourif (Doc Cochran), Robin Weigert (“Calamity” Jane Canary), William Sanderson (E.B. Farnum), Kim Dickens (Joanie Stubbs) and Gerald McRaney (George Hearst). And Jade Pettyjohn will play a new cast member named Caroline.

It’s taking place ten years after the original series, and the characters are celebrating South Dakota’s statehood. HBO’s description states: “Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.”

That's enough to get me to the edge of my couch in anticipation.

These set photos show some years have been added to the men since we last saw them. When the show ended thanks to a budget dispute, there were a lot of story threads left open. You have to wonder if Hearst ever came back, what happened with Tolliver, and whether or nor Seth's hardware store ever became a Home Depot.
