Want to Enter the Backrooms? Here’s a Crash Course in Creating Your Own Backrooms Videos
Truly the viral creepypasta video series that keeps giving, if you’ve been wanting to learn how to create your own entrance to the backrooms, here’s a helpful video tutorial series to clip into.

'Backrooms'
It’s a movie that, for whatever reason, scratches an itch we as humans have never known we’ve had, or—more likely—never been able to explain what it is and why it’s there.
Backrooms has become more than a viral video now, though, as it's a bona-fide box-office breakout story that’s launched its director, Kane Parsons, to the highest levels of indie horror and YouTuber-to-mainstream success.
And as we’ve covered in the past, Parsons’ story is full of lessons, inspiration, and, pretty much, the new roadmap for how a young, creative, and hungry creator can launch a career from his or her bedroom.
However, while you can always explore how Parsons created his version of the backrooms, we’re also here to shine the light on other creators who have plenty of advice to offer on how you, too, can create your own entrance to the backrooms, and fun DIY filmmaking projects of your own.
Make Your Own Backrooms Videos
Coming to us from Connor Clockwell on YouTube, who very well could be another Kane Parsons in waiting as the Backrooms feature film has definitely proven (along with the similar narrative outlined by Curry Barker’s Obsession breakout too) that the next generation of indie and horror filmmakers are online and on YouTube, this video breakdown is a super fun and helpful crash course into how one can create their own version of the backrooms.
The video tutorial goes quite in-depth and covers the following sections:
- 0:00 Intro
- 1:04 Ideas
- 2:11 The Footage
- 8:10 Blender
- 14:00 Composting
- 18:05 Sound Design
- 20:42 VHS Conversion
- 25:00 VHS Alternatives
- 26:51 Final Thoughts
- 27:48 End
Clockwell also offers help to creators facing issues or problems by responding to comments or offering assistance if anyone reaches out.
More Backrooms Insights and Inspirations
From an indie filmmaking perspective, and a true “no film school” approach to breaking into the film industry, there really hasn’t been a story as good and as inspiring as Backrooms (and Obsession) in quite a while.
Not only is it a great film with lots of scares and unique DIY filmmaking techniques, but it also asks some deep questions and gives audiences more to ruminate over than just your usual horror fare. It’s also a nice reminder of just how capable and powerful 3D modeling, animation, and VFX software has become, most notably with Blender being the real star behind the scenes in this scenario.
