Nikon Z7 II and Z6II owners can rejoice. Blackmagic has made Camera Update 3.4 available to download, which brings Blackmagic RAW recording to the popular Nikon mirrorless cameras. The latest version adds improvements to the Video Assist 3G and 12G HDR models. Let's take a closer look.
Both the Video Assist 3G and 12G HDR units pick up improved LCD color calibration for better color performance while monitoring your footage. They also get individual clip scrubbing, allowing you to review footage quicker and more accurately. Additionally, Video Assist 3G models add 2K DCI video support, which will definitely come in handy when pairing it with a camera like the RED Komodo or Canon C70.
Now, Z7 II, Z7, Z6 II, and Z6 owners have access to external BRAW through Video Assist 12G HDR and ProRes RAW with the Atomos Ninja V. With Nikon's development of its new flagship Z9 camera, we'd expect it to have similar functionality. Hopefully, Nikon includes RAW support out of the box so users won't have to send it in for additional service.
