As discovered by Canon News, Canon has filed a patent for a trio of new zooms for the RF mount found on its popular full-frame mirrorless cameras. The focal lengths include an RF 35-135mm F2.8, an RF 40-150mm F2.8, and an RF 30-110mm F2.8.

Canon is known for shaking things up, and these focal lengths are unique for them. Traditionally, Canon zooms come in at 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 24-105mm, and 24-240mm. They do fill other gaps like the 17-40mm and 28-300mm and longer lenses, but the majority start at 24mm. 

While just patents, it shows what Canon has in mind for the future of RF lenses. These new focal lengths may not be as wide, but they make for good companions shooting APS-C.

In particular, the RF 35-135mm F2.8 turns into a 70-200mm F2.8 shooting on the cropped sensor. Canon is probably not only considering the EOS R cameras, but their EOS Cinema Cameras that have a Super 35 sensor. It's more than likely we'll start seeing the cinema line switch over to RF lenses at some point. 

At the moment, Canon has 17 different RF lenses and adapters available for the EOS R ecosystem. If any one of these three lenses makes it to production, it would make for a great addition.
