Hands-On With the New Canon PowerShot V1 at NAB 2025
A first hands-on look at the Canon PowerShot V1 from the floor of NAB Show 2025.

Canon PowerShot V1
While the Canon PowerShot V1 has already been shared with some select vloggers and reviewers in Japan, those of us in the United States haven’t had a chance to check out this new Canon point-and-shoot.
Expectations have been high, though, as early footage tests and reviews indicate that this new Canon V series could become one of Canon’s most popular new camera lines. And while we didn’t get to fully take the PowerShot V1 through the paces, here are some thoughts about the Canon PowerShot V1 after checking it out in person at the Canon booth at NAB Show 2025.
Canon PowerShot V1 Hands-On

So, what stands out about the PowerShot V1 off the bat is that the camera is a bit blockier than the images shared online would lead you to believe. It feels like it’s roughly the same size as the EOS R50 V, which we also got to check out in person for the first time.
For a camera that, at least in theory, should compete with other compact and lightweight point-and-shoots on the market from the likes of Fujifilm, Sony, Panasonic, etc, you’d expect this latest Canon model to be comparably the same size.
However, despite its boxier design, it was still lightweight and very capable—especially for its price point. The AF was fast and responsive, and the zoom was easy to use and surprisingly quick. It felt good in the hands but might be a bit tight in your pocket.

While we didn’t get to shoot or record any test footage, we do have the test shots and reviews shared by Canon to check out. The footage and specs should speak for themselves, too, as the PowerShot V1 is going to be popular and a nice entry point for those looking to get into Canon shooting for the first time.
Featuring a newly developed 22.3MP 1.4"-type CMOS sensor and a cooling fan which accounts for the design, this new flagship V series point-and-shoot should be ideal for vlogging, livestreaming, and solid for photo and video.
