Fiilex has come a long way since the release of its Q500 and P180 fixtures. I've got my hands on both, and the P180 is a solid option for ENG work. It's light enough to put on top of a camera providing a 200W tungsten fill, and robust enough to placed on stands to light an interview.
The Q5 Color can be looked at as a completely revamped Q500. It's Fiilex's next generation 5" fresnel, and uses its Dense Matrix LED technology for color quality and control. Dense Matrix is Fiilex's way of tightly packing the LEDs. The bonding method allows the LEDs to dissipate heat while still providing a consistent quality of light at the temperature you set. Spec sheets aside, a consistent quality of light is the most important feature in a fixture.
The Q5 Color has a spot and flood range of 12-55°, with the 12° spot providing roughly 35,283 lux at 1m (3.3ft). The fresnel glass can also be completely removed, stretching the light angle to 80°. The removable glass is a nice touch by Fiilex as anything modular is always a bonus.
The fixture also has smooth dimming to 0% and promises flicker-free operation. The Q5 Color has AC power that can be swapped out for V-mount batteries with 26V compatibility. A back panel controls all the settings where there are different fan and dimming modes. There are also control modes that include CCT, HSI, Gels, and Effects in both 8-bit and 16-bit versions.
If the Q5 Color is anything like Fiilex's Q8 Travel, you'll be able to control the light with precision using the barn doors. The barn doors on the Q8 cut very well. This, and how clean the light circle projects, have always been the weak points with LED fresnels.
