Fotodiox is one of the many reliable companies out there that adds new life to lenses thanks to optical adapters. The Fotodiox Pro Fusion Smart AF Adapter ($229) is compatible with Canon EF/EF-S lenses that can be mounted to Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, including the Z7 II and Z6 II

What makes this adapter different when compared to Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount ($49) is that it provides autofocus and aperture control thanks to its "Fusion" technology when paired with Canon lenses. The former does not.

The tech inside the adapter enables aperture data, which can be controlled by the shooter. Autofocus is supported in video mode as well as image stabilization on select Canon lenses.

Fotodiox does say results may vary based on the Canon lens.

On the barrel is a Lens Function (L-Fn) button which can be programmed to perform Nikon Z's menu tasks, including focus checking or control gridlines, which can be handy for video shooters. Additionally, a micro USB port allows future firmware updates.

Like other Fotodiox Fusion adapters, it has an all-metal housing with chrome-plated brass mounts to securely fasten the lens to the adapter. In terms of sharpness and reliability, it would be interesting to see how it compares to the higher-priced Fringer EF-NZ Adapter ($299) which produces some great results.

The Fotodiox Fusion Smart AF Adapter is available now for $229.
