Watch George Lucas' First Ever Panel at Comic-Con 2025
What did the esteemed producer and director have to say about Hollywood and his upcoming projects?

George Lucas Panel at Comic-Con 2025
I love Comic-Con. I wasn't able to go this year, but I have been catching up with all the announcements and stories that dropped.
One of my favorite panels I have seen came from George Lucas, who talked about art, creativity, Hollywood, and much more. He even gave us a tantalizing glimpse into the highly anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts.
This was his first time at Comic-Con ever, so it was a historic event.
Moderated by the one and only Queen Latifah, the panel featured a lineup of creative giants: the visionary filmmaker George Lucas, the master of fantasy Guillermo del Toro, and the acclaimed artist and designer Doug Chiang.
Let's dive in.
George Lucas Tells All at Comic-Con
Comic-Con panels are so laid back and really a great place to watch someone talk about a plethora of topics.
The panel with Lucas was no exception.
In it, George Lucas, the creative force behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones, shared his lifelong passion for narrative art, a passion that began in his college days when he could only afford comic art.
He lauded comics for being a medium that can draw anyone ina nd get their creative juices flowing.
He emphasized that the Lucas Museum is not just a collection of his personal interests but a "temple to the people's art."
For Lucas, the value of art lies not in its monetary worth but in its ability to forge an emotional connection with the viewer. He spoke passionately about the power of stories and mythology in building and sustaining communities, a theme that resonates throughout his iconic films and is a cornerstone of the museum's vision.
As a resident of Los Angeles, I cannot wait to see what this is like when it opens its doors.
Del Toro Agrees with Lucas
The panel also brought out Guillermo del Toro, the celebrated director of Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water.
He was a huge guest and brought another layer to the discussion.
Del Toro eloquently articulated the dual nature of art: its ability to hint at life's mysteries and to provide us with the language of emotion.
He championed narrative art, particularly comics, as a powerful medium for social commentary and a tool to challenge propaganda.
Comic Books Guided Chiang
Doug Chiang, a key artistic force behind the Star Wars prequels and a long-time collaborator with Lucas, shared his personal journey, revealing that comic books were the spark that ignited his love for art.
So, it was fitting he anchored what's sure to be one of the best panels at Comic-Con ever.
Chiang described how working with Lucas transformed his understanding of design, teaching him that narrative art is fundamentally story-driven; the story comes first, and the art serves to bring that story to life.
He also expressed his hope that the new museum will serve as a source of validation and inspiration for future generations of artists.
Emotion Above All Else
The one thing everyone here kept coming back to was the power of "emotion".
It's what made all the works they've completed, whether in Star Wars or any sort of other fantasy or movie, or TV show, all click with audiences. They had to get people to connect.
That was the goal for the museum as well. It has to be a guiding light of emotion.
They were collaborating to create a space where visitors can have a deep and personal connection with the art, making it accessible and impactful for everyone.
